Typesetting Guide

BEFORE YOU START:

  • Get familiar with your IG sections! (Are you including study guides? Activity sheets? etc.

Make a list as they would go in your book file and check them off as you go)

  • Check for any product changes on the M drive! M:\08 Catalog\2008 Product changes.xlsx
  • Load your styles! Please use this document to load your styles from. DO NOT load from old ID documents because you styles will not be clean or updated! M:\PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT\IG Conversion\ New IG Styles 2009.indd

FIND/CHANGE THE FOLLOWING:

These are pre-set in your Custom find/change Query:

*Dash Dash to En-dash
*Multiple return to single return (you should have styles set up correctly so you shouldn’t need these extra returns!)
*Multiple Space to single Space
*Remove Trailing White Space (do not change all! Be sure you check each one ->carefully or you may delete something you need!)

These you should type in find/change query to check for:

  • Ellipses … Should be one character not . . .
Remember that at the end of a sentence there will be four characters so type ->a period . …) followed by the ellipses character (alt ;)
  • Change all references of pg. to p. (Our Chicago Manual says this is the >correct way, so please find/change this anywhere you see it.
pp. can remain for pages
In the schedule pages use:
chap.= chapter (these should always be lowercase)
chaps.= chapters
  • Black note box (should be 8pt, this ends a section and always needs 2 spaces before it!
  • Search for urls to be sure all websites are underlined)

Underline website links. Do not underline e-mail addresses (do a search for the “@”)

  • Make sure the evaluation sheets read at the bottom:
(no postage is necessary to return this form if it is mailed in the United ->States)

  • Depending on the study guide you are working in be sure that all vocabulary ->words are bold italic. Be sure all new 2009 paragraph styles are used in the ->appropriate place, and correct spacing is applied.

WATCH FOR THESE SPECIFIC ISSUES:

  • Make sure text frames are linked appropriately.

Watch for Widows and Orphans! Also, be sure your text frames are even with each other.

  • Pull down the black bar on all schedules to the pink margin. (It should “snap” when you are at the bottom)
  • BARCODES- These will be 24 pt. font= barcode 39d.

Double check that these have asterisks ex: *2009243* Adis is the only one in the warehouse that should scan these for you. Convert to outlines before you create a PDF. Use the barcode assignment sheet in Excel. Do a search to make sure there are no duplicates. When you update a barcode, and are ready to go to pre-press simply change the number from 2008200 to 2009200. This will show others that you have changed the barcode,Remember double check with Adis!

  • Copyright dates: Update these for 2009 on the master pages. Do not move them! Be sure the proper right copyright, and left copyright dates are applied where you need them, or your pagination will be off.

Change the edition number and date on the copyright information page.

  • Blank Pages- Be sure you use the master “this page intentionally left >blank” you can load this from our IG folder.
  • Links- Be sure all images/maps are updated
  • Are all footers/section numbers correct?
