Beam Word To Blog Process

  1. Go to M:\Marketing Department\Emails\Beam and scroll toward the bottom for this week's Beam folder.
  2. The Beam Word is inside a folder (itself possibly inside an "admin" folder).
  3. Convert the document for the Blog
    1. Copy-Paste the <h2> title to the Blog post title (and delete from the content for the blog)
    2. Remove the Dear {FIRSTNAME Homeschool Friend), content
    3. Find and Replace all <p> and </p> with nothing (the fastest way to remove them all)
    4. Do the same with all <br /> (Wordpress automatically adds the line breaks and paragraph tags)
    5. Delete all the <table> content at the bottom and replace it with just the text of Sarita's salutation; example:
      Blessings to you and yours,
      Sarita
  4. Optional:
    1. Fix all the </strong> and </em> tags that have a space in front of them instead of after (this is just a coding thing that drives me crazy; having a bold or italicized space doesn't matter, it just feels sloppy to me). Example:
<strong>Something awesome! </strong>When you have proper spacing.
Fixed: <strong>Sonlight awesome!</strong> When you have proper spacing.
    2. Remove all the Google Tracking links from Blog posts and external links. This is, again, a Luke personal thing and it doesn't break anything by leaving it in. However,
      1. I don't see the benefit of tracking internal blog links to other blog posts. I'd rather leave each post to track itself.
      2. Adding Google tracking code to external links only affects that site's Analytics (possibly muddying there results). It gives us no information whatsoever.
  5. Make sure you have marked the Category as Sarita's Word.
  6. Add applicable Tags.
  7. Save and then go back to the Post List so you can click Quick Edit by however over the title area.
    1. Click "Quick Edit" so you can change the Author to Sarita.
    2. Click "Update."
  8. Go back to Edit and preview the post. When it all looks good, publish.
  9. Copy the URL for the post and paste it into the Read More link section of the Beam Word
